Sonnet 1
written 1995

A time for us to walk along the beach
And hear the birds of air so sweetly call;
The rainbow which is barely within reach;
The hand that helps us when we start to fall.
O cry out, you who in your sleep may dream
Of wicked goblins, ghouls, and other kind,
Cry out to parents who in this will seem
To help you to your darkened light switch find.
But not in them will innocence be bought!
Nay, only rainbows hold that dearest thing;
Beware, for anything with you be caught,
And to it you shall never further cling.
Look only to yourself for what you seek--
Cause Who shall get the Kingdom but the meek!
