The Night
written 1998
Silently padding across the carpet,
Her shadow swept in anticipation around the room.
A few steps from the door,
She smiled with relief.
Her day, in all of its stressfulness,
Was about to be over.
The fingers of the moon reached in gently
Between the slits of the mini-blinds.
They delicately brushed her legs
As she moved toward her bed.
Quietly she pulled back the blanket
And crawled underneath its security.
She let her eyes relax
And head fall against the pillow.
The day had been a long one,
So she felt it a great comfort to lie down at last.
Sleep would be next to her soon
And lay her worries to rest.
