| Shortly Thereafter written 1998 A ring down the hall, And she jumped from the sofa. The sound repeated monotonously As she tore around the corner. Her fingers reached it on the third repetition And her ear followed shortly thereafter. Quietly she listened to the explanation While the grin of anticipation faded. The monotony continued in her ear And a noticeable sigh slipped from her chest. A single tear touched her nose In the pause that followed shortly thereafter. Her gentle whimper was her only response To the silence of the other party. Another moment in awe passed And her hand dropped monotony back into its home. She stepped down the hall somberly And a sniffle followed shortly thereafter. |
